Prawn Coconut Fry
Ingredients:
Tamarind – 3 cm round lump
Oil – 4 tbsp
Mustard – 1 tsp
Onion – 1 cup, finely chopped
Curry leaves – few
Shelled, cleaned prawns – 500 gm
Turmeric powder -1½ tsp
Chili powder – 2 tsp or to taste
Pepper powder – 1½ tsp
Shelled and cleaned prawns – 500 gm
Salt – to taste
Grated coconut – 1 cup
Method
- Soak tamarind in 1½ cup hot water and extract the pulp.
- Heat the oil. Add mustard. When they crackle add onion and curry leaves. Fry till onions are brown.
- Add prawn, salt and turmeric. Fry till prawns are cooked. Add chili and pepper powder.
- After 30 seconds, add tamarind pulp. Simmer for 5 minutes. Add coconut and simmer till almost dry.
- Serve with steamed rice or chapathi.
